A Restoration Journey: Reviving a 1980s Cabin in Desoto, Missouri
This project took us to a charming 1980s log cabin in Desoto, Missouri. Owned by one of our most loyal clients—a dedicated supporter who shares our posts and actively recommends us to fellow log homeowners—this home held decades of history but had suffered from years of neglect. Chipping paint, rotted log ends, and structural decay threatened the cabin’s charm and integrity.
Addressing Years of Neglect
The cabin’s exterior bore the marks of time and weather, with chipping paint and severely rotted log ends that required immediate attention. One of the more unique aspects of this project involved replacing a rotted doorway on the porch. To enhance the home’s functionality and aesthetics, we installed a new window in its place, preserving the cabin’s character while ensuring it remained structurally sound.
This transformation required precise craftsmanship and our deep knowledge of log home construction. By removing the rotted wood and carefully installing the window, we repaired the damage and enhanced the home’s overall design.
Comprehensive Restoration Process
To restore this log cabin to its former glory, we undertook a multi-step process:
- Media blasting: Removed the old paint and finishes, exposing the natural beauty of the logs and preparing them for restoration.
- Log repairs: Replaced all rotted log ends and addressed structural vulnerabilities to prevent further damage.
- Staining: Applied a fresh coat of stain to protect the wood and revitalize its rich, natural tones.
