Tradewinds Ranch – Full Exterior Restoration
Tradewinds Ranch in Brumley, Missouri, is a sprawling 1,000-acre horse ranch with a mega-mansion log home. Our team performed a complete restoration, from structural repairs to a full two-tone staining, while protecting the property’s fine landscaping, infinity pool, and outdoor amenities.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Media blasted all exterior surfaces, followed by sanding for a smooth, even finish.
- Caulked with Sashco Conceal in BrownTone for a seamless look.
- Replaced a 15-foot-tall, 14-inch-diameter post at the front entry overhang using a material handler for support, plus several pergola posts in the rear with temporary post jacks and galvanized steel standoffs to prevent future rot.
- Rinsed with Log Wash and treated with 15% borate solution for long-term protection.
- Applied Sashco Colorfast primer to all surfaces.
- Stained walls and soffits with two coats of Sashco Capture in Natural.
- Stained beams, posts, fascia, garage doors, and front door with two coats of Sashco Capture in Chestnut.
- Finished all stained surfaces with a heavy coat of Sashco Cascade Clear Coat in a semi-gloss finish.
Challenges & Solutions:
- Tight quarters and fine landscaping required careful maneuvering of equipment and materials.
- A custom-shaped infinity pool required a protective cover; we built a custom 2×4 frame and plastic sheeting to keep debris out during blasting and sanding.
- Persistent rain and fluctuating late-fall temperatures delayed staining, requiring us to return in early spring for completion.
- The handmade walnut front door had intricate details and deep crevices; after multiple finish removers failed, we ground off the old finish by hand.
Project Highlight:
The structural post replacement at the front entry showcased our team’s precision work, safely supporting the overhang while installing a new, long-lasting log post with rot-prevention features.
What We Loved:
From the mile-long wooded driveway to the fishable pond and water feature, this property was a joy to work on. The on-site dog park even gave our four-legged helpers a place to play between workdays.
Fun Fact:
The Tradewinds Ranch was built in 2012. It was last listed for sale in November 2023 for $14.55 million.
La Veta Mountain Cabin – Full Exterior Restoration
Nestled high above La Veta, Colorado, this mountain cabin faced harsh weather, steep access, and serious structural damage. Our team tackled the challenges head-on, restoring its beauty, strength, and longevity with expert craftsmanship and creative problem-solving.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Removed and replaced rotted logs beneath north-facing windows and at zipper corners, ensuring structural integrity and visual perfection.
- Salvaged several deck posts using M-Balm and E-Wood epoxy repair systems, hand-carved to replicate natural wood grain before sanding smooth.
- Installed custom post toppers to prevent future water intrusion.
- Ordered, stained, and reinstalled the entire railing system.
- Completed the finish with Perma-Chink Ultra-7 stain for long-lasting protection against Colorado’s mountain climate.
Challenges & Solutions:
- Early winter storms, high elevation, and persistent snow made scheduling and logistics complicated.
- Tight access roads prevented semi-trucks from delivering heavy equipment. Our Project Manager drove a forklift 10 miles up the mountain—at just 10 mph—to make the rest of the project possible.
- Weather and supply chain delays slowed rail installation, but clear communication kept the project on track.
Project Highlight:
Precision log rot repairs in highly visible zipper corners required meticulous craftsmanship to ensure a seamless blend between old and new logs.
What We Loved:
From morning fog over the Spanish Peaks to the striking volcanic dikes, every day on-site offered a reminder of Colorado’s rugged beauty and why we love restoring homes in places like this.
Fun Fact:
To get the forklift needed for high gable work, our Project Manager personally drove it 10 miles up a steep mountain road at 10 mph—turning a short delivery into a scenic hour-long climb.
Buena Vista, CO Restoration
Set against the sweeping backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, this luxury log estate near Mount Princeton, Colorado, underwent a complete transformation. Our crew restored every inch of the home—from third-story gables to handcrafted deck rails—bringing warmth, durability, and renewed beauty to this mountain masterpiece.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Media blasted the entire home with recycled crushed glass to strip dark, deteriorated stain.
- Sanded and tail-ground all blasted surfaces for optimal stain absorption.
- Replaced approximately 120 feet of rotted logs, including critical structural areas around windows and support posts.
- Applied a 10% borate treatment for long-term insect and decay protection.
- Media blasted garage and front doors with fine glass media for a clean, refreshed surface.
- Applied two coats of Sashco Capture Stain in Wheat, followed by one coat of Sashco Cascade Clear in semi-gloss.
- Media blasted and sanded all decking and rails, then applied Perma-Chink Deck Defense in Harvest Wheat to the decking, railings, hot tub surround, and picnic table.
Challenges & Solutions:
- High peaks and steep roof caps necessitated the use of lifts and scaffolding for safe access to third-story gables, overhangs, and upper decks.
- Severely weathered rail posts required careful repair, reinforcement, or full replacement, with new sections seamlessly integrated into the original design.
- The size and complexity of the home demanded meticulous sequencing to ensure every beam, post, and railing was restored to Log Masters’ standards.
Project Highlight:
The deck and railing restoration was a standout feature—returning sun-bleached, weathered wood to a rich Harvest Wheat tone that now frames breathtaking mountain views.
What We Loved:
From the intricate gables to the multi-level decks, every vantage point of this property offered another postcard-worthy scene of the Rockies. Restoring a home in such a spectacular setting was as inspiring as the final reveal.
Fun Fact:
To reach the third-story gables above the garage, our crew used a lift and eco-friendly crushed glass media blasting—combining precision restoration with a sustainable approach that protects both the home and the surrounding mountain environment.

- Masked windows and doors for clean application.
- Applied one coat of Perma-Chink Lifeline Advance Satin clear coat to maintain warranty and protection.
Challenges & Solutions:
- During media blasting in 2022, we uncovered a section of rot high up on one of the tallest walls—an area easy to overlook. We repaired the damage before proceeding with staining to ensure structural integrity.
- The initial project was delayed due to the homeowner’s surgery, requiring schedule adjustments and careful planning to complete work in optimal weather conditions.
Project Highlight:
The homeowner’s commitment to doing the job right the first time—and following it with consistent maintenance—has kept this home in peak condition, ensuring the restoration will last for many years.
What We Loved:
By the time we returned in 2024 for the maintenance coat, the homeowner had installed sleek black iron deck railings, perfectly complementing the Chestnut stain and giving the home a fresh, modern touch.
Fun Fact:
The tallest wall repair required expert maneuvering to reach a small but critical section of rot—proof that sometimes the hardest-to-see spots are the most important to address.

- Applied Perma-Chink Prelude Primer, followed by one coat of Perma-Chink Ultra-7 Stain in Almond.
- Finished with one coat of Perma-Chink Lifeline Advance Satin clear coat.
- Applied Log End Seal to all log ends for UV and moisture protection.

- Limited 20-foot spacing between homes required extensive tarping and overspray precautions to protect neighboring properties.
- Strong, consistent lake winds demanded careful application techniques to keep the stain exactly where it belonged.
- Environmental responsibility was a priority; all products used were eco-friendly and safe for lakeside ecosystems.
Project Highlight:
The precise removal and replacement of 25 feet of rotted logs above the front porch showcased our crew’s skill in navigating tight spaces without compromising quality.
What We Loved:
Lake Okoboji’s rare blue waters and the surrounding community made this project a special one—combining craftsmanship with the challenge of working in one of the most unique waterfront settings in the world.

- Weather delays were navigated through flexible scheduling and teamwork to keep the project on track.
Project Highlight:
We installed Nortek Coppercaps on all porch posts to prevent water intrusion—a small but impactful upgrade that will help prevent future log rot.
What We Loved:
The combination of mountain scenery, a welcoming design, and a homeowner committed to protecting their investment made this project as enjoyable as it was successful.
Fun Fact:
The copper post caps we installed not only enhance curb appeal but will also dramatically extend the lifespan of the porch posts by preventing water from seeping into the log ends.
Historic Family Cabin Restoration – Saguache, CO
This unique restoration project took us to the historic town of Saguache, Colorado, where a weathered family cabin (built around 1929) hadn’t been lived in for over 40 to 50 years. The clients, grandchildren of the original owners, were preparing to pass the cabin down yet another generation, making this truly a five-generation legacy home.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Media blasted all log surfaces to remove decades of wear and reveal the wood’s natural beauty.
- Replaced outdated cement chinking with a modern synthetic chinking system for improved flexibility and protection.
- Performed targeted log rot repairs where needed, preserving as much original wood as possible.
- Removed old windows to prepare for modern replacements that improve energy efficiency and comfort.
- Perma-Chink log and timber defense color: russet was applied to protect and enhance the restored logs.
Challenges & Solutions:
- Removing cement chinking installed over nailed-in wire mesh was labor-intensive, requiring careful, multi-person work to avoid damaging the original logs.
- A late-fall start meant battling snowstorms and even a full-blown white-out blizzard with only a foot of visibility, delaying access to the remote site.
- The cabin’s location—over an hour from the nearest hotel—limited work hours, so the crew worked overtime to make up for weather delays.
- Dense overgrowth around the foundation initially raised concerns, but the original lower-course logs were in remarkable condition.
Project Highlight:
Uncovering the cabin’s original logs—still strong and beautiful after nearly a century—was a testament to the craftsmanship of the builders and the care of the family that owned it.
What We Loved:
This wasn’t just a restoration—it was a living history project. The cabin’s story, from feeding hay crews at its famous long table to sheltering generations of the same family, made every step deeply meaningful.
A Living Legacy
“We are finishing the last part of our remodel this week! The whole project has been a little slow, but we moved in about a month ago even though none of the tubs or shower were finished.”
Roach, MO – Lake of the Ozarks Log Home Restoration
Perched on the scenic Lake of the Ozarks—which boasts more shoreline than the coast of California—this small lakeside cabin underwent a complete restoration after years of neglect and a damaging hailstorm. The result is a fresh, modernized retreat ready for many more seasons by the water.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Media blasted log walls to remove old finishes, starting in late winter when the lake was partially frozen.
- Replaced approximately 150 feet of rotted logs, including a full log replacement on the lakeside wall.
- Removed failing caulking and resealed all joints and splits with Perma-Chink EnergySeal in Dark Natural.
- Applied Perma-Chink Prelude primer to all surfaces.
- Stained with Perma-Chink Ultra-7 in Almond.
- Finished with Perma-Chink Lifeline Advance Satin clear coat for long-term durability.
- Sealed all log ends with Log End Seal for added UV and moisture protection.
- Painted soffits, fascia, gutters, downspouts, and window/door trim in satin black for a cohesive, modern look.
Challenges & Solutions:
- Years without maintenance left the home vulnerable to rot, requiring extensive log replacement.
- Starting in freezing winter conditions meant braving ice and cold winds coming off the lake.
- The original trim, soffits, and fascia clashed with the new stain; we convinced the homeowner to update them in satin black, dramatically improving the finished look.
Project Highlight:
The modern contrast of Almond-stained logs with satin black trim completely transformed the home’s curb appeal, bringing it from the 1980s into a fresh, contemporary style.
What We Loved:
Working on the Lake of the Ozarks offered stunning views every day—and even the chance to walk across a frozen stretch of the lake, an unforgettable (and slightly nerve-wracking) winter memory.
Fun Fact:
One frigid winter day, the crew walked across a frozen section of Lake of the Ozarks—solid in some areas with a foot of ice, but just a few inches thick in others.
Neosho, MO – Oak Log Home Restoration (Gastineau Log Kit)
This 8″ x 8″ oak Gastineau log home in Neosho, Missouri, underwent a dramatic transformation, transitioning from a dark, weathered finish to a bright, custom Wheat tone. Along the way, our team tackled nearly 200 feet of log rot, deck repairs, and detailed sealing to protect the home for years to come.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Media blasted and sanded all log surfaces.
- Repaired approximately 200 feet of rotted logs, including major structural repairs at the corner where the original builder had installed logs incorrectly.
- Removed several large portions of the deck to access the first course of logs behind the ledger, repaired deck framing, and salvaged usable deck boards for media blasting and reinstallation.
- Applied Perma-Chink Prelude primer, one coat of Perma-Chink Ultra-7 in custom Wheat (from the Ultra-2 catalog), and one coat of Lifeline Advance clear satin topcoat.
- Sealed all log ends with Log End Seal and filled all checks with Checkmate 2.
- Caulking touch-ups throughout, with special attention to second-story entry points where wasps were getting inside.
Challenges & Solutions:
- The corner log rot repair required a creative solution—cutting off compromised tails and installing a vertical post to preserve both structural integrity and rustic character.
- Starting at the tail end of winter meant working through cold conditions. Midway through the project, our Brown Chevy truck’s engine failed, forcing the crew to work from a much smaller van.
- Deck work was crucial for accessing and repairing structural logs, necessitating a balance of salvage and replacement to achieve a seamless finish.
Project Highlight:
The corner log-to-post conversion is both structurally sound and visually cohesive—solving a decades-old construction flaw while maintaining the home’s charm.
What We Loved:
As a locally based project, this job showcased our deep commitment to preserving Missouri’s oak log homes. The property’s sweeping views made the hard work all the more rewarding.
Fun Fact:
This project is a perfect example of our commitment to our local community and the unique needs of oak log homes. The view from this property is as stunning as the transformation—and we’re proud to have brought new life to a house that had been battling time, weather, and wood-destroying insects.
Hermann, MO – Log Home Restoration
In the charming wine-country town of Hermann, Missouri, we restored this historic cedar log home after a failed paint job revealed extensive hidden rot. From chemical stripping to chinking, every step was done with precision to bring this home back to life and protect it for years to come.
Detailed Project Overview
Products & Process:
- Chemical-stripped painted exterior to bare wood (media blasting not suitable for latex paint).
- Sanded surfaces smooth with 60-grit for optimal stain adhesion.
- Replaced over 150 linear feet of rotted logs, including full log replacements and refacing.
- Removed deck to repair logs behind the ledger board, then coordinated with a local contractor for new deck installation.
- Applied borate treatment to all bare wood for long-term protection.
- Applied Perma-Chink Prelude primer.
- Stained with one coat of Perma-Chink Ultra-7 in Caramel, with a second coat on lighter replacement logs for color blending.
- Finished with Perma-Chink Lifeline Advance Satin clear coat.
- Repaired and refreshed caulking with Perma-Chink EnergySeal in Dark Natural.
- Applied Perma-Chink Stone-colored chinking for a complementary finish against the home’s rock facade.
Challenges & Solutions:
- Removing latex paint required a chemical strip and high-pressure washing, rather than standard blasting, followed by careful sanding to eliminate fuzzing.
- Hidden rot behind the deck ledger necessitated structural repairs and coordination for the removal and replacement of the deck.
- Color blending between new and original logs was achieved with targeted extra stain coats.
Project Highlight:
The combination of Caramel stain and Stone chinking not only restored the home but also gave it an elevated, elegant look that showcases the cedar’s natural grain.
What We Loved:
Hermann’s historic downtown, local vineyards, and small-town charm made this restoration even more enjoyable—and a great reminder of why we love working across Missouri’s most scenic communities.
Fun Fact:
Hermann is known for its historic downtown and award-winning wineries, making it a favorite stop for local wine tours and bachelorette getaways.
